Aunt Holly
EJ got to meet his Great Aunt Holly recently! It's always wonderful to see Peter's Aunt Holly, but we were extra excited to see her this time since we were able to introduce her to EJ. Since most of our family lives far away, getting to show EJ off to them is very special. We had a lovely visit with Aunt Holly and hope to see her again soon!
EJ the cuddler made himself right at home with Aunt Holly.
Four Months Old!
EJ turned four months old last week (adjusted age: 8 weeks)! He's still growing like crazy. He weighs 11 lbs 8 oz and is 21.5 inches long. That puts him at the 61st percentile for weight and 17th percentile for height on the preemie growth charts, and he was just below the growth curve on the normal growth charts. Maybe next month he'll make it to the 1st or 2nd percentile on the normal chart!
EJ had a rough time at the doctor for his four month check up. He got three shots, and this time was definitely the most traumatic for him (and me!). He was inconsolable for almost ten minutes and cried so hard that he got covered in red spots! He got lots of cuddling and all the bouncing on the yoga ball he wanted for the rest of the day.
EJ continues to be a happy baby! He smiles all the time and babbles more and more. His head control is improving even though he hates tummy time. It always ends in tears! Toys have become much more interesting to him this month and now he spends lots of time playing on his play mat. He's just starting to be able to put himself to sleep if we put him down sleepy but awake, but we still bounce or cuddle him to sleep most of the time. He has slept through the night a couple times now, and hopefully he'll start doing it more consistently. He still takes lots of naps, but he likes to play, kick his feet, and push up with his legs when he's awake. He also likes to stare at the TV now, so my days of Netflix marathons while taking care of him are over. He's growing and changing much more quickly then we ever anticipated! No one would ever guess he started out so tiny.
I haven't gotten around to taking four month pictures yet (oops!) but here are a couple I snapped at the pediatrician's office while we were waiting.

Playtime
EJ has been loving his play mat lately. He swats at the toys, kicks his feet, smiles, and babbles away. It's fun to watch him get so excited to play! He's much more interested in grabbing things and listening to the sounds they make now than he used to be. If only he wanted to spend as much time on his tummy as he does on his back!
Sometimes EJ gets stuck. Luckily, he quickly mastered getting unstuck as well.

Mini Adventures - 2/15
Everything else EJ did this week...
Playtime again! We spend a lot of time playing here since EJ's been showing so much interest in the toys lately.
Grainy smiles
Look at that little belly he's got going! These are newborn sized clothes, so he's still pretty small overall, but he's working on it.

Tummy Time
EJ just started swatting at the toys and grabbing the rings. Toys have suddenly gotten much more interesting!

Smiling
Sorry for the annoying vertical video, but here's EJ smiling and showing off his inherited ability to raise one eyebrow.

Mini Adventures - 2/1
Everything else EJ did last week.....
The tummy time is paying off! EJ's neck strength and head control are improving all the time.
Hands free feeding. You gotta do what you gotta do.
We recently discovered that EJ really likes this aquarium crib toy that Grandma Karen picked out for him. It lights up, the fish move, and it plays ocean-y white noise that he finds mesmerizing. Why didn't we get this thing out sooner?!
Snoozin'.
